Enrollment FAQ’s

Who may enroll in Pine Springs Preparatory Academy?

Each charter school in North Carolina is open to any student who lives in the state. According to NC Law, applicants must live in North Carolina at the time of application. CPA is a public school that does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, creed, or gender.

I applied last year for the lottery. Do I need to apply again?

Yes, you must apply EVERY SCHOOL YEAR for the specific grade that your student will be in.

Is your space limited to each grade?

Yes.  In order to stay true to our charter, we must limit our class sizes.  Priority enrollment is the best way to secure a spot for your child.

How long does Priority enrollment last?

Priority enrollment ends on January 31, 2020 11:59pm.  All applications received after 11:59 p.m. on January 31st, 2020 will be time-stamped and added, in time-stamped order, to the wait-list for the selected grade and will not be chosen by random selection in the lottery.

When is your lottery?

February 18, 2020

Do I need to be present at the lottery to receive a space?

No. You will be emailed immediately after the lottery has been run with either confirmation that you received a space or your number on the waitlist.

How old must my child be to enroll in Kindergarten?

To apply to kindergarten, students must be 5 years old on or before August 31, 2020.

Is there a tuition fee to attend Pine Springs Prep?

No, Pine Springs Prep is a tuition-free public charter school.

How does the lottery work?

Priority enrollment starts on December 2nd and ends on January 31, 2020 11:59pm, this is also known as the public enrollment period. Once the priority enrollment period closes (1/31/2020 at 11:59 p.m.), all of the applications received by then will be counted and organized by grade. All of those applications are subject to the lottery if oversubscribed. You will be notified if your application is going to lottery.  We will hold the lottery publicly for anyone that wishes to attend.  All applications received after 11:59 p.m. on January 31, 2020 will be time-stamped and added, in time-stamped order, to the wait-list for the selected grade and will not be chosen by random selection in the lottery.  Pine Springs Prep would need to exhaust all of our priority enrollment applicants before moving on to children on the time-stamped waitlist.

I got a seat!  How long do I have to accept or decline my seat?

5 Business Days (to accept your seat and turn in your paperwork), and that’s a hard cut-off as we have to move on to other families.  If we do not hear from you, your child’s seat will be forfeited.  Effective July 1st the deadline to accept a seat is 48 hours, and effective August 1st the deadline is 1 calendar day.

I’ve completed my enrollment packet but I’m missing one form- can I turn it in anyway?

No.  With the exception of immunization records and health assessments, enrollment packets must be turned in in their entirety or we will not accept them.  Health assessments and immunization records need to be current and turned in before the start of school in August.  Please make sure your child is up to date on their immunizations.

One of my children got a seat but my other child(ren) didn’t- don’t they have priority now?

No, the only children that have priority are children of full time PSP staff and siblings of currently enrolled Pine Springs students.
